Drama of Shakespearean proportions in music and the spoken
word. Sir Laurence Olivier chose William Walton to write music for his first
film as director, Henry V. Their
joint creation is one of the greatest Shakespeare films of all time.
Shostakovich’s music for the 1964 film Hamlet
summons a dark power that has echoes in Bernard Hermann’s writing for
Hitchcock’s films. The most beloved - and enchanting – incidental music to
Shakespeare is Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer
